RE: Brake Controller choices and where to purchase it

..As already said, Prodigy is indeed a very good controller, probably is indeed the best option if you want to keep the budget at $150 or below. It is worlds better than most controllers out there. However, it (Prodigy or P3) is NOT the best controller. Best would be the Brakesmart. Nothing gives you as much direct, proportional control over trailer brakes, and works as smoothly as the Brakesmart, its just that simple. The proof of such, really is in all the actual owner's experience: You will find several on here that have used both a Prodigy, then later a Brakesmart. Every last one of them preferred the Brakesmart hands down, over the Prodigy. If you start asking questions, you'll find that everyone that swears by their Prodigy or P3, has never used, in many cases does not even know about the Brakesmart. If they did....they wouldnt be using a Prodigy any more. ;) The Prodigy is no doubt the most popular, mostly 'cause of its wide availability, and ease of installation. However, like with many things, most popular is not necessarily the best. If you need easy installation and want something $150 or less, get a Prodigy. You'll probably be very happy with it. OTOH, if you don't mind a little extra installatin work and dont mind spending a few more $$$, get a Brakesmart. You'll be even happier with it. :) Well stated.. I fully agree...

RE: Feedback on Bigfoot and (ug!) Hensley hitch

Now I understand why my Dad (who has a TT with a Hensley) doesn't want to post here anymore..He told me about the "hatred" there seems to be for this hitch.. I only know my dad is happy..I drove his TT once and I like it a lot.. anyway.. I am happy with my pop-up..

RE: Looks like the new Hensley/Propride is ready to ship?

May be Hensley Mfg. and ProPride Inc should use your set up as a "field test" resource..If nothing breaks, bent or cracks then one knows how far to push the limits.. Reading the Hensley Mfg. website they recommend 1,400 lbs max tongue weight..????

RE: Looks like the new Hensley/Propride is ready to ship?

I see the spring bar jacks have been improved. That's good since I bent the mounting brackets on my Hensley (pics up later due to website maint.). But I don't see where anything had been changed to the lower plate that see nearly all the tension from the WD bars. Even if the bushings are changed, that's not where the failure occurs. My bushings essentially pulled right though the lower plate. You mind to share your GVWR of the Weekend Warrior FSW 3400 (41' actual length)..

RE: Looks like the new Hensley/Propride is ready to ship?

Anyone able to find a web site for ProPride Mfg or any web site for this new hitch. It would be interesting to read what has been redesigned any why. I'm not sure I understand why they would start taking orders without having more information available......sure wouldn't convince me to make a purchase. I Googled "ProPride" and found a website for ProPride Vinyl Siding. I have not been able to find a manufacturer's website which contains information about the new hitch. Ron Google doesn't show data about websites which are NOT up and running... A WHOIS search is much better and will reveal: www.propride.net and www.propridehitch.com are registered by Sean Woodruff. They don't seem to be operational yet.. Just for your info..

RE: Sway Crash Help me understand what I did wrong

Here is the link where you can file a complaint.. In fact there are NOT that many filed yet..If the customer doesn't file the complaints, GM lawyers will defend GM as they did in THIS response (see page 7)

RE: Sway Crash Help me understand what I did wrong

Here some answers from GM to NHTSA.. read page (7) very carefully..It seems like they take a stand that RV'ers don't know a thing..:E The defect analysis report is PE07-025 and seems to affect only Subrurban, Yukon, Silverado, Sierra and Avalanche.. I don't know whether the Tahoe has the same "family" type hitch receiver... FYI

RE: Recall: Mexican Fram Filter - Fire Danger

Just stumbled on a fuel filter RECALL. Lots of our GM RVs and TV use this filter. "Honeywell is recalling FRAMĀ® G3727 Fuel Filters that were manufactured in Mexico from October 18, 2005 through March 21, 2006 by one of our suppliers. The affected filters are marked with (i) a date code X52911 through X60801 sequentially or code X600141 and (ii) a Mexico country of origin. The code and country of origin markings appear on the filter housing, as shown above. FRAM G3727 Fuel Filters not bearing a date code in this range or that were manufactured other than in Mexico are not affected by this recall. The subject filters were not manufactured to Honeywell specifications and, as a result, the O ring may not seat correctly on the fuel line. This condition may cause an inadequate seal at this connection, potentially leading to a fuel leak (i.e., wetting or dripping) and POSSIBLE VEHICLE FIRE. If you own the affected product, please return it to the retailer or installer from whom you purchased the filter for a replacement filter." Here are some more official documents..

RE: Tragedy of December 1, 2007

My insurance company has started working on the claim today. I had a thirty-minute recorded interview with just tons of questioning. How the trailer functions when not connected to power. How the generator recharges the battery. How the hot water heater works. When we parked the trailer. When we left. Where we went. How I think the fire started. Etc. Etc. It was exhausting. After doing some research, I've seen some fires caused by the battery shorting out. That was very interesting because the night before the fire we came back from hunting and I started the generator so we could watch the evening news. Before we went to bed I turned off the generator and we lost all power including the D.C. voltage. I checked all the breakers and fuses and none were tripped, so I checked the battery and turned the wing nuts to make sure they were tight. The lights came back on. Is that a sign of a potential battery problem? Who knows. If the battery did start a fire it would quickly melt the propane hoses creating a double blow torch on the front of the trailer until the tanks burned off. That's a very real possibility. I also found that Keystone had recall on 2006 Laredo's for battery wiring. My model was an early 2007, so I don't think I was included in the recall, but it's interesting to know that there have been problems in the past. The insurance company is definitely doing an investigation into the cause of the fire. 2006 Laredo Recall Steve You might read THIS It seems your unit is out of the recalled range.. Here is their latest recall update report..

RE: Pullrite hitch

In answer to the OP...We used to have a E150 Van and had a Pullrite hitch installed.. My dad was hauling our Terry Taurus all over the country with the five of us.. He loved that hitch and if I remember well this hitch was swinging under the Van chassis just underneath the rear bumper.. I know he was not pleased with the exhaust rerouting and once he had the rear fuel tank almost exploding as too much exhaust heat was transfered to this rear tank.. (in those these the van had two fuel tanks) There is a guy here on the forum by the name of Ron Gratz, who seems to know a lot about hitches..He might be of more help to you..

RE: Explain Hensley Bump?

My Dad has a Hensley and told me about the hitch "bump". Apparently he was coming downhill in low gear and the braking of the engine allowed the trailer to bump into his vehicle during a sharp downhill turn.. I know he was flaming mad about that and the jerky brake controller.. He ended up buying a new brake controller from Hensley. It seems that this hitch need to stay under pull mode and his new brake controller was the answer anyway he hasn't complained since...
